Size: m. 1,68 H x 4,40 W - 5.5” H x 14’4” W
Age: last quarter of XVI century (1580-1600).
Condition: fairly good. There is an old restoration at the far left of the field, already done in 1930 when the tapestry was first filed in the archive of French & Co, New York.
The tapestry is in the Malibu Getty Museum’s archive (GCPA 0241056).
The peculiar dimensions of this tapestry (very short and wide) suggest that this was part of a set originally intended to hang above a wainscot, to decorate an entire panelled room.
Subject wise the piece belongs to the group of Hunts, considered the most noble among the games within the castle’s park.
It is possible to presume that this tapestry was made in the Frans Geubels’ workshop, active in Brussels since 1570 and author of similar hunting tapestries.
