PEKING
Size: m. 3,50 x 2,78 - 11’5” x 9’1”
Age: end of XIX / beginning of XX century. Woven before the end of the Ching dynasty (1908).
Condition: practically perfect. The pile has no wear. Minimal repairs due to old moth damages.
The field has no focal point and it is a combination of a delicate ton sur ton overall design (probably a derivation of the cloud band motif) with few, small Chinese symbols.
The ivory border provides an attractive contrast to the field and it is decorated with peonies and figures of dragons facing each other.
The rug is sophisticated, elegant and well balanced.
