SENNEH
Size: m. 1.92 x 1,25 - 6’3” x 4’1”
Age: end of XIX century.
Condition: perfect.
Senneh, main town of Persian Kurdistan, is synonymous in rugs of a refinement unsurpassed by any other Persian production.
Often made with the Turkish knot, Sennehs may be identified by a peculiar graininess in the back that adds glamour to glamour.
The field of this rug is based on the boteh motif. This was born as a variation of the cypress which is a symbol that goes back to the Zoroastrian pre Islamic religion.
The same motif is present in two small frames in the border. The third one, the main band, is decorated with an “herati motif” in its “turtle” variant.
